Dr. Austin Newsome, MD, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist with over eight years of clinical experience, proudly serving patients throughout the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area and the Triad of North Carolina.
A Durham native, Dr. Newsome was raised in a large, supportive family with her two parents and five siblings. She graduated summa cum laude and Salutatorian from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, concentrating in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
After completing an Internal Medicine internship at Vidant Medical Center, Dr. Newsome continued her training with a Dermatology residency at East Carolina University/Vidant Medical Center, where she was honored to serve as Co-Chief Resident.
Dermatology Industry Leadership
Her passion for advancing dermatologic care led her to contribute to multiple research projects, including studies on keloid pathogenesis and skin cancer in patients of color. Her work has been presented at national and regional dermatology meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.
Professionally, Dr. Newsome has worked across a range of academic and private practice settings. She has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Dermatology at East Carolina University and practiced at dermatology centers across the Triangle.
Dr. Newsome is a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD) and an active member of the North Carolina Dermatology Association.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Newsome is passionate about mentorship, volunteering her time to guide medical students interested in pursuing dermatology through the Student National Medical Association Mentorship Program.
